I’ve built one Saga kit, and found it 100% enjoyable. I’m a little older and smarter now, back then I didn’t know jack about guitar building. Fortunately it came with very simple, easy to read and understand instructions (which were downright educational, as well.) Sure, the components aren’t in the same league as the expensive professional stuff, but delivered perfectly good, usable sound. And the holes were all correct!!! This is often a “crap shoot” when building kit guitars, I had one BYO Strat where absolutely NONE of the holes were right. My Saga ran about a hundred bucks (dirt-cheap, these days) and I don’t think they’ve increased by all that much (but haven’t looked, to be honest.) My only gripe was that the truss rod was broken, something I didn’t notice for about two years. The electrics are all done for ya, and use connectors rather than having to solder ’em — a feature the purists will moan about, but which a non-solderer like me could really appreciate. Would I recommend Saga, and build another? YES.
