From our Best of YouTube series we bring you this nicely done video by Phil McKnight of the Know Your Gear channel. Phil discusses why cable makers offer an 18 or 18.5 foot guitar cable model, and does some sound comparison tests with longer cables. We think Phil does a good job here, but we would add that the 18-foot benchmark is a historical issue, based on the capacitance per foot of cables typically available some time ago. What matters is the capacitance per foot of the cable, so a cable with lower capacitance per foot could be longer and still deliver the same sonic performance as an 18-footer.
