We've been carrying Gig Tuff's great line of DMX cables for a couple of years in our metrodcmusic.com store, and become big fans of the brand in the process. So we were more than a little excited when Gig Tuff announced they were introducing a line of 8mm XLR Microphone cables. We recently received our first pallet load of these cables and are just now checking them out for the first time. Here's a first photo of their 20 ft cable:
We know these cables are advertised as having a tough 8mm outside diameter but we just had to check with our digital caliper and found that they are actually 8mm!
Next we opened up one of the XLR connectors. First we got a look at the gold-plated contacts:
Then we took a look at the construction technique used by Gig Tuff's manufacturing. We were please to see that the +/- wires have a clear insulating sleeve that keeps fine wires, dust or other items from shorting out between pins. We also note the deep grooves left on the cable jacket by the connector clutch, indicating an excellent level of strain relief.
Finally we noted the nice Gig Tuff logo cable tie, which is attached to the cable (and easily removable if desired) so it won't get lost and is conveniently ready when you want to coil the cable again. Nice touch!
With so many great features we have to say that we are really pleased with Gig Tuff's new microphone product line. We'll have them available in our store in just a few days at our usual great prices!
